ALERT: Gun Control Hearing on House Floor!

This is an urgent alert for all gun owners in Idaho.

Tomorrow, HB 167, the bill that will create a massive amount of “gun-free” zones in Idaho, will be heard on the House floor.

The bill creates “gun-free” zones by giving “No Guns” signs the force of law in Idaho where they currently do not have the force of law.

We are calling on gun owners in the Boise area to meet us at the capitol at 10:00 a.m. outside the House chambers. More on that in just a minute.

First, while it may not have been the intent of HB 167 to implement gun control, the legislature now knows that the bill will enforce gun control.

There is no way around it.

Under current law, a gun owner must first be notified that they have to leave a property before they are trespassed. With HB 167, the bill clearly states that a sign is “notification” enough.

Additionally, the bill also violates Idaho’s firearm preemption law by letting “government buildings” post “No Firearms Allowed” signs.

Under Firearm Preemption, cities and counties are not allowed to regulate the carrying of firearms. This creates a clear problem with our current law if HB 167 is passed.

Finally, HB 167 puts groups like the ISAA in jeopardy of a $100,000 fine if an anti-gun prosecutor/judge determines that we “intended” to trespass on what the bill calls “critical infrastructure.”

These three major issues are why the bill must be stopped in its current form.

That’s why we are calling on any gun owner in the Boise area to make it to the capitol on Tuesday, February 28th at 10:00 a.m. outside the House chambers.

Bring a sign to “STOP HB 167” or “STOP GUN-FREE ZONES” or any other sign you want. We just want to get as many gun owners to the building as possible.

No matter what you do though, you must send an email TODAY to both your House members to stop HB 167, which is likely going to be voted on tomorrow or later this week.
