Breaking! Contact Lewiston City Council Now!

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance has been working with Councilman Ryan Johnson of Lewiston to remove the illegal ban of firearms on their city buses.

Councilman Johnson has been going back and forth with the city attorney who is attempting to do everything she can to keep the ban in place.

She is deliberately trying to skirt Idaho law!

You can read one of her emails below and how she intends to tweak the wording to try to keep this illegal gun ban in place.

Now, we need your help to tell the Mayor and City Council it is time to step up and end this ban for good.

Please act immediately!

Contact the Mayor and City Council and tell them simply:

“Please end the illegal gun ban on city buses and tell your city attorney to apologize to gun owners for trying to skirt our gun laws!”

Mayor Jim Kleeburg

Councilman Bob Blakey

Councilman Ged Randall

We cannot let this city attorney in Lewiston get away with trying to undermine the rights of gun owners in Idaho.

Thank you!

P.S. Here is a copy of one of the emails the attorney sent to Councilman Johnson where you can see her deliberate attempt to keep the ban in place while toying with our laws to get what she wants.

This is a follow-up to Councilor Johnson’s comment at the Work Session regarding Ride the Valley’s policy of prohibiting firearms on City buses.  I have discussed the issue with Community Development, and they plan to change the policy.  For obvious reasons, they would not like to draw attention to the fact that persons are allowed to carry firearms on public transportation routes.

The current language reads as follows:

“Carrying, exhibiting, displaying, or drawing any firearm, dagger, sword, knife or other cutting or stabbing instrument, club, or any other weapon, including a toy weapon, apparently capable of suggesting or producing bodily harm, under any circumstances is not allowed on any bus or Transit Property.”

The language will be changed to:

“Unless otherwise provided by law, passengers are prohibited from carrying, displaying, or using any weapon that suggests or is capable of producing bodily harm.  Such weapons include, but are not limited to, knives, daggers, swords, and toy weapons.”

By adding “unless otherwise provided by law,” this statement excludes the regulation of firearms without saying so outright. Please let me, Suzanne, or Laura know if you have additional questions or concerns.

Best,

Jana
