Time is running out.
The legislative session is moving quickly. In fact, we are about halfway through the session and we’ve been waiting for a public hearing on Stand-Your-Ground expansion, SB 1004.
With a lot of new legislators and a new State Affairs Committee Chairman in the Senate, we knew it was going to take some time to get SB 1004 moving.
Sen. Scott Herndon has been working overtime in the capitol to get SB 1004 a public hearing, talking to countless legislators, as he fights to make this legislation a reality in Idaho.
He can’t do this alone though, and he’ll need added pressure in the capitol to get every single legislator on board!
Political Director Christy Zito and I have been at the capitol meeting with as many legislators as we can to find co-sponsors for SB 1004. However, it is far more crucial that your legislators hear from you, their constituents.
Sometimes, legislators don’t want to do the right thing and will instead fight against our efforts, including some Republicans.
For instance, Rep. Jeff Wheeler (R-35) is telling constituents that he won’t co-sponsor SB 1004 and that this crucial piece of legislation will make things worse for gun owners.
This is the same type of fear-mongering that gun grabbers pushed during the Constitutional Carry debate. It’s the same type of lies that were told about Stand-Your-Ground, Campus Carry, and every other pro-2nd Amendment bill that has passed in Idaho.
This is exactly the type of new legislator we have warned about for years.
Too many “Republicans” go on the campaign trail and promise you that they are staunch supporters of the 2nd Amendment because that’s a requirement in Idaho.
Did you know that Wheeler voted for Joe Biden in 2020 and that he also voted in the DEMOCRAT primary?
Wheeler is literally the definition of a Democrat who runs as a Republican, but he just didn’t hide it as well as other so-called Republicans typically do.
Before we get to the current list of co-sponsors, we want all Idahoans to email Rep. Wheeler and tell him to reconsider his position on Stand-Your-Ground expansion.
You can contact Wheeler at the following email: [email protected]
Be firm but respectful in your communication. Just make sure that he knows you want him to change his position and become an avid supporter of SB 1004.
After you have done that, check out the list of current co-sponsors below and find out if your legislators are on it:

If your legislators are signed on as co-sponsors, be sure to send them an email and tell them to thank you for supporting SB 1004.
If you notice that some or all of your legislators are not on this list, be sure to send them an email right away and ask them to fulfill their promise to stand with Idaho’s gun owners.

<<< TELL THEM TO CO-SPONSOR SB 1004 NOW! >>>
Insiders at the capitol have told us that some legislators may support SB 1004 by voting for the bill if it gets to the floor for a vote, but aren’t sure they want to sign on as a co-sponsor.
For instance, Sen. Ben Adams (R-12) is said to be a supporter of SB 1004 but has so far not signed as a co-sponsor of the bill.
Adams has made a name for himself during legislative sessions with passionate speeches on the House floor and is often seen with more conservative members of the legislature.
So, it’s important that Adams understands how important this bill is to Idaho’s gun owners. You can reach Sen. Adams and encourage him to cosponsor the bill at the following email address: [email protected]
<<< TELL THEM TO CO-SPONSOR SB 1004 NOW! >>>
We have very little time each year to pass solid, pro-2nd Amendment legislation in Boise. That means we have to get gun owners active and push SB 1004 as quickly as possible.
The more gun owners in Idaho that reach out to their legislators, the better leadership in the capitol will understand how important SB 1004 is to Idahoans.
So, once you have sent your own email to your legislators, please forward this email to as many Idaho gun owners as possible.
It’s only through your efforts that we can help SB 1004 get across the finish line!
For Idaho,
Greg Pruett
