Major Gun Bills Squashed in Final Week of Session

The legislature is doing what it has always done.

Despite being in what should be one of the most conservative states in the country, the Idaho legislature has failed gun owners once again.

They love to brag about Idaho’s ranking as one of the most gun-friendly states in the country, but that’s only because gun owners like you forced them into making big votes on critical gun issues like Constitutional Carry.

Many Republican lawmakers would rather not vote for issues like Stand-Your-Ground or the Second Amendment Preservation Act. They would rather focus on spending more of your money and increasing the size of government.

You see, I’ve been doing this for over a decade now and their method of operation is always the same.

The establishment GOP takes a really good gun bill and waters it down to almost nothing. Then, when the mediocre bill passes, they pat themselves on the back and say, “See how pro-gun we are!”

For example, take House Bill 295, which prohibits credit card companies from coding firearm/ammo purchases specifically.

The bill originally covered all “financial institutions” from targeting gun owners. However, the banks complained to the legislature and it was refined to only cover the credit card companies.

HB 295 had already cleared the House WITH Democrat support, and the final version had all but one Democrat in the Senate voting for it.

You have to ask, if modern-day Democrats are voting for a gun bill, does the bill really do anything?

Again, it’s not a bad bill, in that it doesn’t impose any time of gun control, but it’s not hard-hitting legislation.

Right now, in the wake of violent left-wing extremists, Idahoans need to make sure that we have the best protections possible.

That’s what SB 1004 is going to do for gun owners. It offers an opportunity to an Idahoan who has acted in self-defense to invoke Stand-Your-Ground within 14 days of being jailed.

Under current Idaho law, you may sit in jail for months while an anti-gun prosecutor does everything he can to bury you.

If you need a better example of why we must have SB 1004, then look no further than the George Soros-backed prosecutor in New York who is going after President Donald Trump.

George Soros has been helping anti-gun, pro-crime prosecutors win all across the country.

In fact, it’s estimated that Soros prosecutors now cover 40% of the U.S. population. And we can see what type of chaos these individuals bring as crime is skyrocketing across the country.

Yet, with the rise in crime and the violence from radical leftists, like the woman who murdered six people in Nashville recently, we aren’t going to do everything we can in Idaho to fight for real change to our laws?

SB 1004 was fought hard for by gun owners across the state and had the backing of over 30 legislators, but was ultimately stuffed in the desk drawer of Chairman Jim Guthrie (R-McCammon).

Guthrie has also blocked a bill that would remove power from the public universities and colleges to regulate concealed carry on campus.

It’s a power that the public indoctrination institutions never should have had in the first place. But they do because of spineless Republicans who gave it to them.

Another bill that has been languishing in a desk drawer would have repealed an antiquated law regarding assembling with firearms in public.

Chairman Joe Palmer (R-Meridian) is sitting on that bill and not letting it go anywhere, while gun grabbers are using the law to try and get gun owners in trouble.

The bottom line is, gun owners have to continue to up the pressure on elected officials to do their jobs.

GOP establishment politicians will cry all day long that you are bullying them for being involved in their “process,” and they will pound their chest all day long that they are pro-2nd Amendment, but the reality is they only do what you want when they feel their jobs are in jeopardy.

At the end of the day, it’s all up to you.

Gun owners have the ability to toss politicians out of office who don’t uphold their oaths and campaign promises. You’ve done it before.

Former Idaho House State Affairs Chairman Tom Loertscher learned the hard way that when you stand in the way of pro-2nd Amendment bills, you don’t get to keep your job.

In 2016, Loertscher was tossed out of office for blocking Constitutional Carry. Gun owners in his District replace the 32-year politician with pro-gun candidate Chad Christensen.

Will Guthrie or Palmer face similar results because of their blockage of pro-2nd Amendment bills?

For the ISAA, our goal is to educate voters all across Idaho about what’s happening with the 2nd Amendment. We do that through TV ads, radio spots, direct mail, social media, and more.

As the legislative session wraps up here in the next week or so, we would encourage you to continue standing with us as we focus more of our fight on stopping Biden’s gun grabs, our case before the Idaho Supreme Court, and local fights at the city and county level.

After 10 years of the ISAA kicking butt at every level, we aren’t about to sit back and take a break.

Change only happens when you demand it.

That’s why I am asking you to become a member of the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance today

Second, be sure to watch and share my latest podcast on how gun bills really work in Idaho.

No matter what you do, please encourage every gun owner you know to become a member of the ISAA today, and help us grow our efforts to make Idaho the best gun states in the country, and leave no doubt!

Thank you to all who have stood with us this legislative session.

The ISAA is only as good as the members who stand with us. You stood with us for the good, bad, and ugly of this session and we sincerely appreciate it.

For Idaho,

Greg Pruett
President
Idaho Second Amendment Alliance

P.S. The GOP establishment has fought solid pro-2nd Amendment legislation all year, again.

This is how the GOP operates. For a more detailed breakdown of how gun bills are stalled in the Idaho capitol, watch my video below.

Finally, be sure to join the ISAA and become a member of the hardest hitting, no-compromise group in the state!
