New Plymouth Idaho Bans Guns In City Limits!

I expect to see gun bans in New York and California, but right here in Idaho?

Well, that’s what is happening in New Plymouth!

We need your help to get this gun ban overturned — more on that below.

In 2014, when the Idaho Second Amendment Alliance started the “Preemption Project”, the ordinance in New Plymouth was one of the most egregious.

So, we sent them a letter on November 14th, 2014 and informed the City of New Plymouth that their ordinance violated state law.

That was almost 2 and 1/2 years ago!

That letter was followed up by numerous emails and phone calls to try and resolve the issue.

What’s worse, I personally attended a City Council Meeting on July 6th, 2015 and presented a new ordinance for the City that would have removed the gun ban.

They have thus far refused to change it!

What does the ordinance say exactly?

Ordinance (6-5-2) reads:

“It shall be unlawful for any person to carry concealed upon his person any brass knuckles, revolver, pistol, dagger, stiletto or other deadly weapon.”

Michael Bloomberg would be proud.

What’s more, Bloomberg would be even more proud that New Plymouth has fought against changing the ordinance.

However, Idaho law is very clear on this issue.

Cities and Counties are PROHIBITED from enacting ordinances that regulate the possession of firearms.

The statute, 18-3302J(2), reads in part:

“Except as expressly authorized by state statute, no county, city, agency, board or any other political subdivision of this state may adopt or enforce any law, rule, regulation, or ordinance which regulates in any manner the sale, acquisition, transfer, ownership, possession, transportation, carrying or storage of firearms…”
(Emphasis Added)

Regulating the possession of firearms is not allowed by statute as you can see.

What New Plymouth is doing not only violates your 2nd Amendment rights, it violates State law!

The City Council and Mayor have not learned the lesson that other anti-gun politicians learned in the 2016 elections.

Perhaps they should call FORMER Representative Paul Rommrell and FORMER Representative Rich Wills and ask what happens when you fight against gun owners.

It was gun owners who tossed both men out of office for not upholding their oath to the Constitution.

It was a surge we saw nationwide — gun owners tossing out and defeating anti-gun candidates all over the country.

That effort concluded with the defeat of Hillary Clinton and her epic campaign to take down gun owners.

That’s why we can’t let these anti-gun ordinances exist in Idaho!

We must fight the anti-gun agenda at every turn.

So, what can you do to help?

>>> First, we need you to contact the City Council and Mayor right away and tell them to immediately remove this ordinance at their next Council Meeting on May     15th!

          City Hall :          208-278-5338
          Mayor Email:         [email protected]
          Clerk/Council Email: [email protected]

Remember to be firm but respectful in your correspondence.

>>> Second, forward this email to as many of your family and friends as you can!

This gun ban must be defeated and other gun bans like it must also be defeated.

It isn’t just New Plymouth.

We have other cities such as Ketchum, Filer, Plummer and Soda Springs that are also refusing to make changes.

Those are battles for another day.

Right now, we need your focus on New Plymouth and their gun ban!

Thank you for your efforts and it is because of people like you that we will see success.

You can make a difference right here, right now, in Idaho!

In Freedom,

Greg Pruett
Idaho Second Amendment Alliance

P.S. New Plymouth is refusing to change its gun ban, despite the blatant violation of Idaho law!

Even after the ISAA contacted the city in November of 2014 and after I personally attended one of their City Council Meetings in July of 2015 to present a new ordinance — they still haven’t changed it.

That’s why we need you to contact them right away and tell them to remove the illegal ordinance at their Council Meeting on May 15th!

See the contact info above.

Make sure to send this email to all your family and friends after contacting the city.

Thank you for your activism!
